I have a 25,000-gallon pool. How many panels do I need to heat it? I live in Michigan. The winter is very cold. What temperature can these panels withstand?

For a Michigan type weather climate, I would recommend a solar offset of 50%-75%. Based on volume, that would be a total system size of 300-400 sq ft depending on variables such as panel orientation, daily solar run time, etc. If you have space for the larger 4′×12′ panels that would be (6-8) 4′×12′ panels. The solar panels will survive the winter conditions . You just need to make sure the system is fully drained of all water and isolated to prevent any water from entering the system. This process is referred to as “winterization” and will prevent damage to the panels during the winter months.
